Detailed travel schedule

Day 1:

After landing at Kilimanjaro Airport, you will be picked up and driven to your lodge. Here you can relax from your long flight and enjoy the Tanzanian atmosphere. Overnight stay in Mount Meru Game Lodge (***) or Arusha Coffee Lodge (****).

Would you like an additional activity in the morning or afternoon? Check out our additional activities.

Day 2:

After a wonderful breakfast, you will meet your private guide this morning. He will discuss the whole trip with you. You will then visit Arusha National Park, exploring the park on foot with a ranger (approximately two hours). You will be able to admire buffaloes and giraffes and enjoy a wonderful view of Mount Meru (4,562 m). In the afternoon you will explore the national park on a game drive, where with a bit of luck you may also see the colobus monkeys. Overnight stay in Mount Meru Game Lodge (***) or Arusha Coffee Lodge (****).

Additional activities:

(Prices on request! Some activities require an additional overnight stay.)

  • A city tour of Arusha with a visit to the Maasai Market and the Cultural Heritage Centre (half day)
  • The Napuru waterfall trail: Hike through a beautiful rainforest at the foot of Mount Meru to a stunning waterfall. You will discover monkeys, extraordinary birds, chameleons, and many butterflies (approx. 2 hours)
  • By canoe on Lake Duluti or Lake Momella, Arusha National Park (2.5 hours): On the water in a canoe there are many extraordinary birds to discover, such as kingfishers, ospreys, hundreds of cattle egrets, the snake bird, flamingos and many more
  • Hiking tours up to Mount Meru (day tour or 3-4 days with porters)
  • Arusha Coffee Plantation Tour (half day): You will visit a small coffee plantation owned by a local farmer. You will be shown the entire process of fair-trade coffee production. You will also receive a local meal and of course a delicious cup of coffee
  • Mount Meru waterfall hike (3-4 hours)

Day 3:

After a hearty breakfast, you will be transferred to Arusha Airport, from where you will fly to Grumeti airstrip. You will be picked up there and driven to the lodge. From your lodge you have a fantastic view of the Grumeti River, and there is a good chance that you will spot wildlife.

In the afternoon you will go on a walking safari hike with a ranger. A safari hike is very special. You can spend hours walking in the bush with your guide, learning about birds, insects, wildlife footprints or plants for medical use. Overnight stay in Grumeti Serengeti River lodge (eco-lodge, *****).

The Grumeti Game Reserve National Park, in the north-west on the border of the Serengeti, was established in 1994 to protect wildlife migration and its ecosystem, as it is an important wildlife corridor. In 2002, the Grumeti Community and Wildlife Conservation Foundation, now known as the Grumeti Foundation, won the rights to protect the 350,000-hectare natural area. The Grumeti Game Reserve is known for its enormously large lion groups of 20 to 60 lions. There's a good chance you'll see lots of lions, but you'll also often be alone in the area. Game drives can be done during the day or even at night, and as you are allowed to go off-road, there is a high chance that you will spot lots of wildlife.

Additional activities:

(Prices on request! Please specify the desired activities when requesting a quote.)

  • Hot air balloon ride
  • Night safari
  • Hiking with a ranger
  • Birdwatching with a bird-expert
  • Overnight stays and game drives in the Grumeti Game Reserve

The western part of the Serengeti, Grumeti National Game Reserve, is considered one of the most tranquil and beautiful areas of the Serengeti. In this area, with far fewer tourists and safari jeeps, wildlife lovers and nature enthusiasts can enjoy the Serengeti's nature in private.

Day 4:

In the morning you will visit the observation post and receive information about the Singita Grumeti anti-poaching program. In the afternoon you will go on a game drive by jeep. Overnight stay at Grumeti Serengeti River Lodge (eco-lodge, *****).

The anti-poaching observation post is located on top of a hill with a fantastic view of the landscape. There you will meet the rangers and get an insight into their lives and work. Combining an early morning coffee or a late lunch drink with a visit there makes it possible not only to enjoy the beautiful nature, but also to understand the importance of the Singita Grumeti anti-poaching post.

Day 5:

Today you will go on a morning game drive. After lunch you will drive to the centre of the Serengeti. You will probably spot lots of wild animals along the way! Overnight stay at Siringit Serengeti Camp (****).

Day 6:

Today you will visit the rhino conservation project in the Moru Kopjes in the south-west of the Serengeti (about an hour from the lodge). Accompanied by a TANAPA ranger, you will see the black rhinos in their natural environment and get more information about this rhino project (prices upon request). Overnight stay at Siringit Serengeti Camp (****).

In 1993, due to massive poaching, there were only three black rhinos left in the Moru Kopjes in the Serengeti National Park. At that time there were in total only 133 black rhinos left in Tanzania. In cooperation with the Frankfurt Zoo, TANAPA (Tanzania National Parks Authority) established the first rhino conservation project in 2019 and released nine black rhinos into the Serengeti. Together with a TANAPA ranger you will visit the large area of 3,500 kilometres and feel the dedication as they protect these rhinos from poachers.

  • City tour of Dar es Salaam in the afternoon (2 hours)

Day 8:

In the morning you will be picked up from the hotel and taken to the airport. From there you fly to Kigoma, close to Gombe Stream National Park. Once there, you will be picked up from the airport and driven to the Kigoma Hilltop Hotel (20 minutes), where you can enjoy your lunch. In the afternoon, a boat from the hotel will take you to Mbali Mbali Gombe Lodge (2 hours). In the evening, one of the staff members from the Gombe Stream Research Center will sit down with you over dinner to explain the work with the chimpanzees and the activities of the Gombe Stream Research Center. Overnight at Mbali Mbali Gombe lodge.

Gombe Stream National Park in Tanzania is home to the Kasakela chimpanzees. Dr. Jane Goodall has spent almost 30 years in the area observing chimpanzee behaviour in the wild. The chimpanzees Greybeard and Flo have become world-famous as a result. Jane Goodall's work was groundbreaking because she was the first to observe how chimpanzees create tools to obtain food. In addition, her observations led to the insight that chimpanzees are animals with feelings and that there is a very complex sense of community within the group.

Day 9:

Today you will see chimpanzees in the wild! You can walk through the rainforest either in the morning, in the afternoon or all day, of course accompanied by one of the rangers (minimum age for participants: 15 years old). The rangers will help you spot the chimpanzees. During the tour you can also visit Kakombe Waterfall and Jane Goodall's feeding centre. Although chimpanzee sightings are the highlight of this tour, you will also see other primates such as blue monkeys, vervet monkeys, red-tailed monkeys or olive baboons. Gombe Stream National Park has an additional 200 species of birds and 11 species of snakes. Overnight stay at Mbali Mbali Gombe Lodge (***).

Day 10

Today you will visit one of the nearby fishing villages by boat, where you can see local activities such as fishing, embroidery, and boat building and visit the local chief. You will also witness the traditional Ha dance. In the afternoon you can relax or go again on a hike in the rainforest (price on request). Overnight stay at Mbali Mbali Gombe Lodge (***).

Founded during Jane Goodall's revolutionary discoveries, the Gombe Stream Research Centre is an active research site for monitoring chimpanzees in the wild. Over the years, staff has recorded entire life phases of chimpanzees and baboons, from birth to death, as well as during migration. Today, they continue to collect data on the behaviour, health and social interactions between individual chimpanzees.

Day 11:

Today you will leave the beautiful Gombe Stream National Park with unique impressions. First, you take the boat back to Kigoma, and then you take a flight to Dar es Salaam. There you can continue your holiday on Zanzibar or fly back home.

We can extend this trip with an offer to Zanzibar. There are several eco-lodges in Zanzibar, such as Sunshine Marine Lodge (****) and the Chumbe Island eco-lodge (*****). Your booking directly supports the preservation of the ecosystem and educational projects on site.
We look forward to hearing from you!
