Accommodations

Your accommodations on the Africa safari

From rustic safari tents in the middle of the wilderness to luxurious beach villas right on the Indian Ocean – there is something for every taste. Particularly impressive are the environmentally friendly measures that many accommodations in Tanzania are taking. Solar power, rainwater harvesting and recycling are just a few examples of how the lodge operators are committed to protecting nature.

A highlight among the accommodations is certainly the Ngorongoro Crater Lodge, which not only impresses with its breathtaking location on the edge of a volcano crater, but also with its excellent service and stylish furnishings. Here you can experience luxury and sustainability combined at the highest level.

But you can also find charming eco-lodges off the beaten tourist path that give you authentic insights into the life and culture of Tanzania. Whether in the dense rainforest or at the foot of the majestic Kilimanjaro – unforgettable experiences await you everywhere.

Age limit

Experience Tanzania with children

If you are planning to go on a safari trip through Tanzania and are wondering what age restrictions apply – don’t worry, children are welcome! There are only age limits of 12 or 16 for certain activities. For example, you can climb Kilimanjaro from the age of 10, and there is no upper limit.

Many parents ask themselves the question: At what age is it possible to go on a safari with children? There is generally no minimum age for safaris in Tanzania, but you should keep in mind that sometimes long journey times and early rises can be the order of the day.

So, if your kids are fit enough and enjoy observing animals, why not take them on a safari early on? This way, you can experience unforgettable moments together! Of course, on request, we also adapt individual safaris to suit children and include shorter trips, hikes or age-appropriate activities in the programme.

Vaccinations for Tanzania

What vaccinations do I need for Tanzania?

For a safari trip to Tanzania, certain vaccinations are essential to protect your health and minimize any risks. The recommended standard vaccinations include tetanus, diphtheria, polio and hepatitis A and B. Yellow fever vaccination is required for travels, who come from a country with high risk of yellow fever – internationally recognized proof may be required in that case upon entry.

Since there is a risk of malaria infection in some regions of Tanzania, prophylaxis is urgently recommended. It is important to seek advice about possible antimalarial medications early on. It should also be noted that some areas of the country may pose an increased risk of typhoid or rabies.

Make sure you get your vaccinations well in advance of your trip, as some vaccines take several weeks to months to become fully effective. In any case, we recommend that you consult a doctor or obtain detailed information in advance from the foreign office or the responsible tropical institute of your local country about current medical recommendations. Of course, you can also seek advice from us at any time.

Visa

How do I get a visa for Tanzania and Zanzibar?

To travel to Tanzania, in most cases a tourist visa is needed (for countries like e.g. EU, UK, Switzerland, Australia, New Zeeland, USA, Canada, Latin America and the Asian countries (except Hongkong and Signapore)). Check for your specific country whether a visa is needed – there are exceptions. You can apply for your visa at the embassy or consulate (USD 50 /P): https://visa.immigration.go.tz/. It is best to apply for the visa at least three weeks in advance to ensure that you receive it by the time you depart. Alternatively, it is also possible to obtain the visa upon entry at the airport. This usually doesn’t take long and costs around USD 50 per person (USA: USD 100 /P).

The same applies to the trip to Zanzibar – the same visa that you already receive for mainland Tanzania is sufficient. In general, you must be able to present a valid passport for both destinations that is valid for at least 6 months, as well as often a copy of your return ticket and proof of sufficient financial resources for the stay.

For travelling to Zanzibar, as of 01.10.2024 its obligitory to have an Inbound Travel Insurance with you, which is 92 days valid (44 USD/P). You can apply this insurance online under www.visitzanzibar.go.tz.

Find out about the current visa regulations early on and take note of any changes due to political developments or new laws.

A well-prepared application can save you a lot of time and avoid unnecessary stress – so nothing stands in the way of your dream safari in Tanzania followed by relaxation on Zanzibar!

Cancellation deadlines

Cancellation deadlines for your Tanzania trip

At Tanzania Unique Adventures we attach great importance to providing our guests with an unforgettable experience. But sometimes unforeseen circumstances can mean that a trip must be cancelled.

You will find all information about the usual cancellation deadlines in our general terms and conditions. In general, however, the closer the planned travel date is, the higher the costs will be in the event of a cancellation. We therefore always recommend contacting us in good time if your plans change. We generally recommend that you purchase travel cancellation insurance and travel health insurance in advance in order to save you costs.

We know how important it is to remain flexible and are happy to help you find a solution together. Because in the end, our main concern is to ensure that you can spend a carefree time in the breathtaking nature of Tanzania. Just look at our general terms and conditions or contact our team for further details – we look forward to hearing from you!

Food & drink

The culinary diversity of Tanzania

Tanzania has a variety of delicious foods and drinks that you should definitely try. The Tanzanian cuisine is characterized by fresh ingredients such as fish, rice, vegetables and exotic spices. An absolute must is the traditional dish “ugali”, a cornmeal porridge that is served with many main courses.

The various fruit juices are also highly recommended, especially the delicious passion fruit juice or coconut water drunk directly from the nut. However, you should also be careful on your culinary journey of discovery in Tanzania. Avoid drinking tap water and opt for packaged water or hot tea.

Raw vegetables should also be consumed with caution to prevent stomach problems. If you have any allergies, intolerances, or other special food requirements for your trip, please let us know in advance so that we can pass them on to the lodges.

Security

Is Tanzania a safe country to travel to?

Tanzania is a dream destination for many people, to be able to experience the fascinating wildlife of Africa and discover breathtaking landscapes. But the question often arises: Is Tanzania safe? The answer to that is basically yes. The East African country is considered comparatively safe for tourists as long as common precautions are followed.

Since you will be accompanied by a private guide who knows all about Tanzania from the moment you arrive at the airport right through to your return journey, you don’t have to worry about your safety. The guide will also give you safety tips such as not displaying valuables and traveling on well-lit streets. You should also always pay attention to your personal belongings.

In the national parks, wild animals can occasionally react unpredictably – so it is important to always follow the rangers’ instructions. Overall, despite isolated security concerns, Tanzania is considered a relatively low-risk travel destination, you are not harassed and can move freely. With a good dose of common sense, nothing stands in the way of a carefree stay in this beautiful country!

If you still have concerns, we advise you to take out insurance in advance. With AMREF Flying Doctors, you can take out insurance for medical assistance in more remote areas. This can be completed for 15 or 30 days: https://flydoc.org/maisha/products/. We recommend Silver Status for Tanzania.
