Experience Tanzania up close

Locals will accompany you on your journey!

This trip shows you the wildlife in the less touristic national parks of Nyerere and Ruaha in the south of Tanzania. With your trip you support the elephant corridors through the local beehive program and experience the African wilderness outside of mass tourism. You will often be traveling alone! Experience fly-camping: three days on foot in the middle of the African wilderness. An unforgettable experience!

The Nyerere National Park is best visited between June and February. At Usangu Expedition Camp (open from June 1 to January 3) you are in the middle of the wilderness and experience walking, boat and night safaris as well as game drives. You can experience a safari in a completely different way!

Would you like to shorten, extend or customize this trip? You can also book a part of this trip: either Nyerere National Park, Ruaha National Park or Usangu Expedition Camp.

Just contact us, we will be happy to help you!

Detailed travel schedule

Safari specials: walking safari, golf & safari, riding safari, honeymoon safari or accompanied by a professional photographer – you can make your safari programme even more exciting. Find out more under the safari options.

Day 1:

You will be picked up from the airport in Dar es Salaam and taken to your hotel. Here you can recover from your long flight. Overnight stay at the Serena Hotel, Dar es Salaam (****).

Additional activities:

(Prices on request! Please specify the desired additional activities when requesting a quote):

  • City tour of Dar es Salaam (2 hours).

Day 2:

After breakfast, you set off for Nyerere National Park. You can either do this via our private jeep (4-5 hours) or by a small plane. In the latter case, you will fly directly from Dar es Salaam to Mtemere airstrip in Nyerere National Park. There you will be picked up by your private guide and taken to your lodge, which is located directly at the Rufiji River. Overnight stay at Rufiji River Camp (****), Selous Impala Camp (****) or Selous River Camp (***).

Day 3:

Today you will take a boat trip on the Rufiji River (half a day). If the water level is too low, you will be transported to one of the nearby lakes. A boat safari is another way to view the wildlife. You are very likely to see impala, waterbuck, kudu, warthogs and - for the lucky ones - elephants bathing in the river. You will see an extremely large number of hippos and crocodiles. Overnight stay at Rufiji River camp (****), Selous Impala camp (****) or Selous River Camp (***).

Rufiji River camp is part of the Foxes Community and Wildlife Trust, a foundation that supports medical, educational, social and child protection projects. Rufiji River Camp is committed to the protection and sustainable development of the conservation areas and has, for example, planted 6000 trees.

Day 4:

Today you spend the whole day in Nyerere National Park. Nyerere National Park is Tanzania's largest independent national park and covers 30,000 km2 of wilderness, with grassy plains, open forests, mountains, lakes and rivers. Wildlife includes hippos, buffalos, wildebeest, zebras, elephants, giraffes, lions, leopards, crocodiles, wild dogs, impalas, sable antelopes and over 400 bird species. Overnight stay at BehoBeho Camp (****) or Selous Impala Camp (****).

Additional activities:

  • Nightsafari in Nyerere Nationalpark.
  • Fishing (catfish or tigerfish) on the Rufiji River.
