Every booking supports the preservation of nature.
Elephants migrate already over hundreds of years enormous distances, and often along the same routes, referred to as “corridors“. These corridors are mostly outside the current national parks and traverse large parts of Tanzania. Problems arose over time as the African population increased, villages and towns grew, and much land was turned into farmland.
The elephant corridors came under increasing pressure because the elephants were suddenly crossing farmers’ fields, destroying villages and wounding local people on their hundred-year-old routes. The conflict between humans and wild animals was born. This conflict increased the poaching and killing of elephants, as the local population became increasingly angry when their fields were trampled.
The solution:
Bee fences!
A natural method for peaceful coexistence between humans and elephants.
Elephants are naturally afraid of bees, and the bee fences ensure that the elephants stay away from farmers’ fields and retreat into their natural environment. This method preserves 80% of the crop while protecting the elephants from angry farmers.
And this is how it works:
- A beehive is hung approximately every ten metres.
- All beehives are produced locally.
- Bee wax is applied to attract bees.
- The local population makes honey from the honeycombs and sells it on their local markets.
- If you book one of the northern trips with us, your name will be on one of the beehives, and you will actively support this project!
Information and monitoring of elephants
How education supports elephant corridors.
In addition, the elephants themselves are intensively monitored to understand their movement patterns and track their routes. This is done using modern technologies such as GPS tracking and surveillance cameras. By collecting data on elephant migration behaviour, appropriate measures can be taken to ensure their safety and that of surrounding communities.

By booking one of our trips – be it the northern trip to the Serengeti, the eastern trip to Kilimanjaro and Mkomazi National Park or the trip to Nyerere –- you are directly supporting the programme for human-elephant coexistence in the wild. For every booking we donate a beehive to the corresponding NGO.
During your trip you will have the opportunity to visit the bee box with your name and meet with one of the responsible local NGOs.
When you visit the NGO, you will gain insights into their projects on site. You even can hang and/or label your own beehive, have conversations with the local community, and enjoy the delicious honey. Once you return from your trip, we will keep you updated on how many kilometres of bee boxes have already been installed!
